Last night on the phone with K we coined this phrase, because I was talking about how it always boosts my morale when I get the job at Starbucks, even though I never take it. Twice I’ve hit the point where I thought I might have to get a second job, or any job, and done their application process. And when they sit you down to talk about the “Starbucks community” I always start talking in Labov theories and academic definitions. I can’t help it! Every time I pull out my Masters thesis research to apply for a minimum wage job, I am “overachieving my Starbucks interview.” But I’d totally rather do that then not get the job, you know? Even if I don’t need it.
